Resident Evil 7, that is to say, is a first-person shooter with suspenseful gameplay. It’s a personal favorite over at eXputer as well. There are some jumpscares in there that frighten the living heck out of the player, especially when you’re repeatedly coming in contact with Jack Baker.

A whole rollercoaster of emotions awaits you in this horror thriller of a title as you uncover dark, deep mysteries surrounding the Baker family. The name of the protagonist is Ethan Winters—an ordinary civilian who sets out to find his wife after he receives an exceptionally unsettling video message from her.

The fact of the matter is that the message is received three years after Mia—Ethan’s wife—goes absent for the first time. When the protagonist finally stumbles upon the homestead where Mia is allegedly trapped, a whole swath of mishaps starts manifesting immediately.

Ethan has to crawl through a lot to come out on top of the Baker family, not to mention getting his arm severed and being forced to improvise regardless. As you progress through the storyline, you find out how the Baker family came about to be infected and the true reason Mia went missing in the first place. There’s never a dull moment in Resident Evil 7, and we can assure you that.  

The second-last entry on this list belongs to Mass Effect Legendary Edition, allowing you to relive the complete cinematic saga of the iconic third-person shooter franchise. This particular game variant lets you enjoy the nerve-wracking adventures of Commander Shepard—the chief protagonist of the Mass Effect series—in stunning 4K visuals. There’s just no putting it on a lighter note how beautiful this title looks in its revisited form. 

Strap yourself for an adventure of a lifetime as you take command of the Normandy and embark on single-player campaigns like never before. There are more than 40 different DLCs for the entirety of the trilogy that is included in the Legendary Edition. That is to say, and the latter encompasses all three of the front-running Mass Effect games: Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, and Mass Effect 3. 

If you’re after some of the best single player sci-fi shooter games on Xbox One consolidated with a touch of thrill and rip-roaring action, you may as well shoot for Mass Effect without breaking a sweat. It’s rated quite high and is known for its inclusion of memorable characters, gripping storyline, and terrific combat gameplay. This is not the IP you’d want to miss out on while owning any of the Xbox consoles.  

Topping the guide off is perhaps, one of the most eccentric shooters ever to grace the platform of Xbox One. Gears 5 is the last title to advance the Gears of War franchise, which happens to be utterly popular on Microsoft’s famous line-up of gaming consoles.

The well-acclaimed saga that this series has created is currently finalized by the epilogue of Gears 5. However, the events of the latter do indicate that a sequel might be in the works. Anyhow, Gears 5 marks itself as the most advanced Gears of War title to date. It arrives loaded to the brim with features that allow the player full control over their gameplay experience.

For instance, it’s possible to take full advantage of the included accessibility features and make the best of custom controller mapping, adaptive controller functionality, and even the option to toggle on single stick movement. 

The game in question is no less than a rollercoaster of emotions. You’ll find the protagonist delving deep into her inner self and channeling hidden mysteries to uncover the truth behind the destruction and war. Kait Diaz will be front and center in this iteration of the Gears series. As for the rest of the major plot points, we’d like to keep things spoiler-free here, so do try out what is otherwise the best Xbox One shooter game yourself. 

Xbox One, right alongside the PlayStation 4 measured up to be genre-defining consoles of their time, but as with every other thing in the universe, everyone and everything has its replacement. Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 have seemingly come into the picture now, providing an exceptionally bright prospect as to what the future holds.

However, even though the latter two consoles are prevailing in the ripe tech-forward age of 2022, Xbox One is still a relevant platform to pay heed to. It’s going strong with the latest releases arriving to it, such as Elden Ring and Red Dead Redemption II. These two are some of the best single player campaign games on Xbox One, and you have to try them out if you’re a solo-play enthusiast. 

Our personal favorite on the list so far is Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, offering a tip-top Soulslike experience without the added difficulty of stamina constraints. The adrenaline in my body that Sekiro alone has pumped is enough to keep the time spent with it ever so memorable for the years to come. Not sure if it’ll entice you in the same way, but it is worth a shot nonetheless—we can assure you that.
