Mi-Wuk Sugar Pine Fire Protection District is expecting delivery of a new, custom-built type 3 engine from Idaho, staff with the agency said Friday.

The new Engine 774 will be deployed for community service as well as mutual aid calls with Cal Fire during the coming fire season, according to district staff.

A type 3 wildland engine is set with four-wheel drive designed for rapid deployment, pick up, and relocation during wildfires. A typical type 3 engine is equipped with a pump that can push up to 120 gallons per minute, a 500-gallon tank, and 1,000 feet of 1.5-inch diameter hose.

Type 3 engines also have four-wheel drive for rough terrain and a maximum gross vehicle weight rating exceeding 26,000 pounds. The minimum number of personnel on a type 3 engine is supposed to be three firefighters, according to Boise Mobile Equipment, an engine builder in Boise, Idaho.

“We are excited to announce that our brand new custom built type 3 has been completed and picked up from Idaho,” Mi-Wuk Sugar Pine Fire Protection District said Friday in a social media post. “We were able to obtain this engine through a combination of hard work from our Auxiliary, deployments from dedicated fire personnel, as well as donations from the community.”
