People are being asked to avoid the area whilst the incident is ongoing

A leisure complex at Devon Hills Holiday Village is on fire. Ten fire engines are currently at the scene of the blaze at Devon Hills Fitness.

The blaze has taken hold of the family-owned park, which sits between Paignton and Totnes.

An update from Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service states: "We were called at 7.09am to a fire in the sauna of the leisure complex at Devon Hills Holiday Village in Paignton.

"The building is over two floors measuring approximately 40m x 20m. Approximately 50% of the roof is involved in the fire.

"We have more than ten fire engines at the scene, as well as a water bowser for extra water. We are using an aerial ladder platform as a water tower to fight the fire. We also have two main jets in use."

People are being asked to avoid the area with only one lane of the A385 main Totnes road in use.

According to the fire sercice website: "Crews have left the scene, one appliance will revisit later this afternoon."

A spokesperson for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service has said: "The main fire has been extinguished but we still have three fire engines dampening down hot spots."

A spokesperson for the force said: "Our only involvement was some traffic control at the entrance to the park but we have now left the scene and the log is closed."

People are being asked to avoid the A385 main Totnes road following the outbreak of a large fire at a Devon holiday park. Over ten fire engines have been called to the Devon Hills Holiday Park between Totnes and Paignton following reports of a fire in the sauna.
